Companionship care for older people
Sometimes what makes the biggest difference isn't a job done, it's someone to share a coffee with. Our carers bring regular, unhurried company to help your mum or dad feel less alone and more like themselves.
What a companionship visit includes
- Sitting and chatting over a cuppa
- Going out for coffee
- Activities they enjoy, such as puzzles, colouring or cooking together
- Pottering in the garden if gardening is their hobby
- Trips to a memory café, an exercise class, swimming or the library
- Simply being there
Who it helps
People living alone, those who have lost a partner, anyone who has become isolated or anxious, people in the early stages of memory loss, and couples who would enjoy a fresh face. Families who live far away and want to know someone is visiting.
How often, and for how long
Visits from one hour, anywhere from three times a week to every day.
Company near the end of life
We can also provide calm, gentle company for someone nearing the end of life, alongside their nursing team.
A real example
One lady had no more jobs she wanted doing. When her carer asked what else she'd like, she said: 'Make us a coffee and come and chat to me.' That's companionship.
Areas we cover
North Dorset, South Somerset and South Wiltshire. Call Kirsty with your postcode if you are not sure.

Companionship questions
Companionship is social and practical support. Personal care is hands-on help with washing, dressing and toileting, which Aurora doesn't currently provide.
What we do and don’t provideThat depends on the person. Visits start from one hour, anywhere from three times a week to every day.
Yes. Carers drive in their own cars and all hold business car insurance. Mileage within the visit time is charged, and we explain that at your home visit.
We keep a small team around each person, usually three or four familiar carers a month, so your loved one is never greeted by a stranger.
We don't publish fixed prices. After a free home visit, Kirsty gives you a clear written quote.
